Project Overview
Indeed Incubator is an internal innovation lab at Indeed that aims to radically improve hiring through novel solutions.
With this project, we saw an opportunity in the qualitative and quantitative data. Job seeker responsiveness to employers dropped off after about 3 days from applying. On the employer side, we heard complaints of "no shows" or no response. Digging in, we learned that our SMBs customers often have little-to-lean recruiting teams and were sifting through applications amidst other work. Then, they'd get hung up in interview scheduling back and forth. This was frustrating to them.
How might we help job seekers and employers connect quickly?
My Contributions
I translated the problem space into a project kick-off, brainstorm, and sprint with a lean team of a shared UX designer/researcher, 2 software engineers, and myself. Determined our longer-term strategy and MVP requirements. Tested 3 iterations in 4 months. I pitched to Indeed's senior leadership team for continuation funding for a a pivot to the initial approach. We received funding and additional headcount for 1 year to pursue the project. I continued to lead the team, handle product IC work, and present monthly results to our executive sponsor.
As a part of product acquisition, I led the cross-org effort to hand off the product vision and tech to the acquiring team.
Project Outcome
This product was internally acquired by our SMB team and resulted in an increase of employers with an interview scheduled from 6% to 47%.
